LA BEFANA IS ARRIVING TONIGHT...CANDIES OR CHARCOAL? / ARRIVA LA BEFANA...CARAMELLE O CARBONE?

LA BEFANA is an old witch who arrives on a broom on the night of the Epiphany, January 6,  and brings candies to children who have been good, and charcoal to those who have been mischievous. This also applies to ADULT kids obviously:)  Which will it be for you?  Candies or CHARCOAL?

Cosa vi porterà La Befana...caramelle o CARBONE?

AN AMERICAN IN TRAPANI // UN AMERICANO A TRAPANI

In an earlier post, I mentioned that Italians are obsessed with America. When the Americans liberated Italy, they introduced Italians to things like whiskey, cigarettes (Camels and Marlboro), peanut butter, tip tap,  baseball, rock & roll and so on. Renato Carosone wrote a song about this in fact, titled "Tu Vuò Fa l'Americano". Then Steno made a movie "Un Americano a Roma", a satire about "americanization". The main character Nando (played by Alberto Sordi) is a childish young man who idealizes America and tries to be American, driving his father crazy. In modern days the American influence in Italy is felt by the presence of MacDonald's and of American movies. Even in Sicily we have many MacDonald's, mainly in the big cities though. We still don't have one in Trapani. Recently, however, an American-style cafè opened in Trapani. It's called INO'S AMERICAN PARLOUR. Among other things, they serve doughnuts and bagels.  Can we ask for more? I am delighted to have discovered it, especially because of its RED environment :)
