HOW TO MAKE PESTO - QUICK AND EASY RECIPE

Place a bunch of basil leaves in a blender, add 1 tablespoon pine nuts, 1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese, 3 cloves garlic, 1 teaspoon salt, 5-6 tablespoons olive oil (more if you like your pesto liquidy). Blend for 2-3 minutes. Cook the spaghetti, drain, add the pesto sauce and serve.

  1. I bought a lot of basil the other week because I wanted to make some pesto sauce. But I've been too sick to feel like eating it. Now my basil is probably past it's prime. It would be interesting for me to know how much it cost you for your ingredients. Pine nuts here are very expensive. It costs about $8 Canadian bulk (about 5.5 Euros) for about 200 grams or less. I purchased 2 bunches of basil for $4. ($2 each).

  4. That's how my Mum makes pesto, too. It's great! Sometimes she varies it a bit, for instance using hazel nuts instead of pine nuts. But she has to be careful with the salt; if the cheese is very salty already, not much (if any) extra salt is needed.

  5. Francesca, We love pesto but we've never made it at home. We've always used a prepared store bought version. Fresh would be much better... Thanks for the recipe! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
