Sugar and Spice .... and everything nice!

I have a thing for spicy cakes...not spicy in the sense of hot, but with lots of spices, my favorites are cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.  The cake which I made today in fact is made with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

The ingredients are:  2 cups of flour; 1 teaspoon baking powder;1 teaspoon baking soda; half a teaspoon each of cloves and cinnamon; 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Mix them all up. Then in another bowl stir together half a cup of oil, ( I used olive oil but you can use any oil you like), 100 grams of powdered  brown sugar - YES!  It's finally available here in Sicily!  Then add two eggs, a bit of raisins, pecans or walnuts, and half a chopped pear. 

Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ones. Line a small loaf pan with baking paper, and fill the pan with the cake mixture.  Add slices of pear on top. Bake in a preheated oven 180° C for about 1 hour.
